Terry Hamilton’s leadership experience spans over 25 years at the executive level in the world’s leading telecom, global aerospace and defense industries, managing all facets of the business and driving growth with successful outcomes.
Terry began his executive career in operations management for the world’s largest aerospace and defense firm, European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS), now Airbus. In this initial role, Terry managed quality, manufacturing and industrial engineering. Terry relocated several divisions, maintaining a smooth transition for the transfer of employees, equipment, and documentation, ensuring compliance in a transparent manner for both customers and employees. Focus areas included driving turn-around times on major aircraft subsystems to a 12-day TAT to better support airlines around the world.
Subsequently, Terry was promoted to Director of Business Development and Programs. His responsibilities then included managing the largest programs within the company and achieving exponential growth, both organically and through acquisitions and partnerships. During this period, his major focus was to establish a footprint in North America to meet EADS’s corporate goal – targeting sales of $5B, a five-fold increase in four years, which was met.
Terry then accepted an executive position with Goodrich Corporation, a $6B aerospace and defense company. His role in leading Business Development and Program Management involved growth with existing customers and diversifying a predominantly ISR Space business into other markets. Attainments included $1B of space business with Northrop Grumman and LMCO with a 22% overall revenue growth. These accomplishments better positioned Goodrich for acquisition by United Technologies in a $16.5B transformational landmark deal.
Terry then accepted a VP role with L-3 Communications, a $15B aerospace and defense company. This executive role, reporting to the president, involved merging and restructuring several unprofitable divisions into a profitable segment, thereby becoming part of the $2.4B business sector that designed, manufactured and supported highly engineered electronic systems for military aircraft, missiles, and launch vehicles. Terry expanded the company’s business portfolio from aerospace-only applications to naval, land and commercial domains while realigning product mix and driving margin profitability to double digit levels.
In parallel, Terry held P&L responsibility for the company’s commercial telecom products, ground-based systems, missile programs and maritime projects, while also providing customer support. While at L-3, Terry assisted the planning and implementation of front and back office consolidation of the telemetry divisions that resulted in significant cost savings driving EBITDA and aligning L-3 for acquisition or merger. Shortly thereafter, L-3 completed a merger deal with Harris Corporation creating the sixth largest aerospace and defense company in the world, forming L3Harris.
Terry started Hamiltoncom LLC in 2015 to assess and advise companies with their business development, program management and operations, leading to opportunities for growth in the aerospace and defense markets. Hamiltoncom is currently partnered with other companies on both coasts and in the midwestern U.S., and has established satellite offices to better serve customers in these areas.
Hamiltoncom has assisted companies and private equity firms with nine mergers and acquisitions, adding to their portfolios and enabling future corporate growth.
Terry holds a BS in Computer Science and an Executive MS in Technology Management from the University of Maryland. He has also completed numerous management and engineering courses at MIT and served as an adjunct instructor at Montgomery College in Maryland.
